.He knew better.A soft grin made its way across his face.Necalli didn’t intend on letting him up until he got what hewanted.“Not today.I real y have to get to the pier.Ipromised.”Necal i shoved off Adam and rolled his back toward him, curling up tight.“Fine.”Guilt flooded his gut.Damned Necalli knew his everybutton already.Sighing, he turned to his side, propped himselfon his elbow, and leaned over Necal i’s slim body.“Hey, don’tbe like that. You know it’l be a short day today and we’ll betogether this afternoon.” He brushed his fingers over Necal i’scheek.Pouting, Necalli tilted his head to gaze at Adam.“I know.I’m sorry.I just miss you so much when you’re at work.” Heturned into Adam’s chest, letting Adam embrace him.He pecked the top of Necal i’s head with his lips.“I toldyou, you could come with me.I can always use an extra hand.”Necal i shook his head.If only he could ask why his lover was still so reluctant togo to the pier, why when he talked of the boats and the174The First Ful Moonfishermen he worked with, his lover’s eyes glazed over andsometimes fil ed with tears. But they’d decided long ago toleave this subject untouched, this and so much more about themysterious young man’s past.He sighed and tightened his holdon Necal i for a moment.“I love you.” He’d never tire of thosethree, simple words.“I love you.” Necal i shifted in Adam’s arms.Soft lips grazed his neck.“Okay, I have to get up now.”Releasing his hold on Necal i, he climbed off the bed andambled into the bathroom to prepare for the day. After cleaning up and dressing in a tan work shirt andtrousers, he opened the bathroom door and stepped into themain room. The smel of bacon and fresh toasted bread madea path from his nose straight into his gurgling stomach.Smiling, he stepped over the cold floorboards to thekitchen counter, where Necalli was busy pulling plates downfrom the cupboard in one of Adam’s entirely too large shirts. He wrapped his arms around his lover and drew him to hischest.“Smells delicious, just like you.”Necalli tilted his head back into Adam’s shoulder andplaced his hands over Adam’s forearms.“You are so sweetwhen you want to be.” With a soft chuckle, Necalli shifted hisattention back to the breakfast he prepared. After a quick squeeze, he released Necal i and took a seat atthe table.A cup of coffee, cream and sugar already waited forhim. It made him smile, to think how comfortably they had fitin together. He poured cream and spooned sugar into hiscoffee from a little porcelain set his aunt gave him a few yearsago and stirred before bringing the cup up to his lips.As heblew across hot liquid, his eyes followed Necalli, now settingplates filled with food on the table. After Necal i set the plates down, he took a seat next toAdam.“So, what time did you say you’d be off today?” Necallitook a bite of buttered toast.“Um, around three, I think.” He sipped his coffee.“I’d liketo meet you over at Frank’s when I’m done.Maybe we could175Christie Gordonhave dinner there tonight with Peter?” He set his cup downand picked up a fork.Necalli nodded his head and gulped.“Sure, I’d like that.”He sat back and eyed Necal i.“You were going to clean thecrap off the roof from the trees today, weren’t you?”Necalli smiled playfully at Adam.“Yes.”He frowned.“I’m not sure I like you getting up there whenI’m not around. What if you fal or something?”Sighing, Necalli rolled his eyes.“Oh come on.I think youknow my abilities a little better than that.”He leaned forward and grabbed a slice of bacon, smirking.“Oh yeah, you’re some kind of acrobat, I forgot.” He bit histongue before making a joke about using those abilities downat the pier.“In any case, please be careful with yourself.”Necal i scoffed.“I will.”Adam was worn from the day as he hopped up the steps toFrank’s, but it was a good worn.He tugged the door open andtook a brief glance at the bil owing fog, lit up by afternoon sun, before stepping lightly inside. He gazed around the speakeasy as he made his way into thebar, noting the present absence of a certain female pest and thebustle of a mid-afternoon crowd.Excitement mixed with thesounds of a piano and it immediately piqued his interest.Necal i sat at the bar, listening to Peter’s chatter and takinga long sip from a frosty mug of beer.“Hey.” He took a seat next to his stunning lover, alwrapped up in a dark sweater and darker slacks.Necalli twisted on his barstool and gave Adam a wide smile.“Adam, how was your day?” Reaching his gloved hand out, hesqueezed Adam’s thigh.“Hey, buddy.” Peter smiled at Adam before reaching underthe bar for another frosty mug.“Good, real y good.” His gaze rested on his lover’s smile. How he wanted to taste those lips, but now was not the time.Necal i leaned in to whisper in Adam’s ear.“You want me,176The First Ful Moonright now, don’t you?” He sat back with a smug look on hisface. He chuckled, keeping his gaze on Necalli’s lips.“Yeah, how’d you guess?”Peter planted a mug fil ed with golden beer on the bar infront of Adam.“Oh my God, wil the honeymoon ever beover?” Shaking his head, Peter chuckled as he wiped at a spill.“Oh my, did you see that, Adam?” Suzie came trotting upto stand in front of Adam.“What?” Adam asked.Peter and Necal i both turned to look at Suzie in herwaitress uniform.“That horrible man over there pinched my ass, that’swhat.” Suzie placed a hand on her hip, obviously flustered.“Well?”Chuckling, Adam twisted on his stool to face the bar again.“So? What do you want me to do about it?”Suzie swatted Adam’s shoulder.“Ow!” Flinching, Adam raised his hand to rub his stingingshoulder and glared at Suzie.“You should defend me, that’s what.” She stood herground, glaring back at him.“Seems you can take care of yourself with the way you justbackhanded Adam.” Necal i grinned as he took a sip of hisbeer [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
